Today we are going to share 5 shortest Surah’s in the Holy Quran that are easy to learn by heart and understand the translation. It is said that steps taken gradually but consistently are most pleasing to Allah. These Surah’s consist of 3 -4 lines. Also note that the Holy Quran is to be memorized in Arabic language but the translation can be in any language.
1 – Surah Al-Ikhlas – (Sincerity) | # 112
Translation:
Say (O Muhammad (SAW)): “He is Allâh, (the) One. (1) “Allâh-us-Samad [Allâh the Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, (He neither eats nor drinks)]. (2)
“He begets not, nor was He begotten; (3) “And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.” (4)
Description:
This Surah is one of the most important Surah of the Quran. Reading it is equivalent reading one third of the Quran. Known as the chapter of Purity, it speaks of God’s Absolute unity in great depth yet being so precise and short. There is great reward and immense understanding in the one who learns, memorizes and implements on this beautiful chapter.
2 – Surah An-Nasr –
Translation:
When there comes the Help of Allâh (to you, O Muhammad (SAW) against your enemies) and the conquest (of Makkah), (1) And you see that the people enter Allâh’s religion (Islâm) in crowds, (2) So glorify the Praises of your Lord, and ask His Forgiveness. Verily, He is the One Who accepts the repentance and Who forgives. (3)
Description:
Surah An-Nasr was the last revelation given to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and after some months of this revelation, he passed away. This surah talks about a lot of significant issues in details, like the conquest of Makkah, people coming into Islam and about forgiveness.
3 – Surah Al-Kauther – (Abundance) | # 108
Translation:
Verily, We have granted you (O Muhammad (SAW)) Al-Kauthar (a river in Paradise);[] (1) Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only) (2) For he who hates you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), he will be cut off from every posterity (good thing in this world and in the Hereafter).[] (3)
Description:
In this Surah we find out about the river, Al Kawthar, belonging to Prophet Muhammad (saws) in Paradise. It is described in hadiths as a river, whose banks have tents made up of pearls and it smells of musk. It is also described as “whiter than milk and sweeter than honey”, and it has many more descriptions of it.
Translation:
(It is a great Grace and protection from Allâh), for the taming of the Quraish, (1) (And with all those Allâh’s Grace and Protections for their taming, We cause) the (Quraish) caravans to set forth safe in winter (to the south), and in summer (to the north without any fear), (2) So let them worship (Allâh) the Lord of this House (the Ka’bah in Makkah). (3) (He) Who has fed them against hunger, and has made them safe from fear. (4)
Description:
This surah in its great and precise manner speaks of the tribe of Quraish. The tribe of Quraish denied Allah’s oneness and is the reason they were reminded of the blessings of Allah. Allah, reminds them, that it is he, who protects them and provides them sustenance.
5 – Surah Al-Asr – (The Declining Day)| # 103
Translation:
By Al-‘Asr (the time). (1) Verily, man is in loss, (2) Except those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma’ruf) which Allâh has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allâh has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allâh’s Cause during preaching His religion of Islâmic Monotheism or Jihâd). (3)
Description:
This surah clearly speaks of the essential requirements for mankind which is to believe and enjoin righteousness. For the Believers it’s a reminder that they are in loss except those who work towards righteousness and remind others of truth and patience. Ibn Kathir, a traditional scholar holds the view about this surah that it is a “warning to believers not to waste time or they could be humiliated or even ruined.” (IbnKathir, 2010).
